About the court

Lanark Sheriff Court was totally refurbished over a period of two years and re-opened in 2004. The Justice of the Peace Court was established in the same building in February 2010.

Phone interpreter

A phone interpreter service is available when you contact a court by phone or attend in person. To access this service ask for phone interpreter and the language required.

The phone interpreter service is not available during actual court proceedings.

Directions

The court is situated two doors away from Lanark public library in Hope Street. The library is signposted from Lanark High Street which is well served by bus routes. Use the journey planner for public transportation information.

Several bus routes pass through High Street. The bus station is situated next to the rail station.

Lanark Train Station is a 15 minute walk from the court.

There is no public car parking at the court. There are numerous public car parks within a 15 minute walk from the court.

On arrival

On arrival, the public counter is immediately to the right of the entrance door as you come into the building.

Jurors on a jury

If you are attending for jury duty please report to the public counter. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for jurors if the court sits into the afternoon.

The Jurors page contains information for people who have been cited to attend as a juror in a court room.

General jury service enquiries should be directed to the jury citation and excusal team as instructed on your citation. Jurors can also contact the court on 01555 667369.

Taxi requests

If you consider that you need to use a taxi, you must agree this with the clerk of court before you attend for jury service. The clerk of court will need to agree that no other kind of transport is available to you or that a journey using public transport would take an unreasonable time. If travel by taxi is approved, you must upload a copy or photograph of a receipt showing the fare which you paid.

Accessible access

Wheelchair users can access the court via a ramp at the front of the building. A lift is available to take visitors from the ground floor to the first floor level for access to the courts themselves.
