About the court

The Kilmarnock Sheriff Court building opened to the public in December 1986. It is one of the busiest courts in Scotland. The Justice of the Peace Court was established in the same building in 2010.

Jury helpline

Jury Helpline - 01563 550034 (with recorded message for Jurors - updated messages are accessible after 17:00 the day prior to the date of citation) on the Friday prior to your citation date. Further updates may be added daily after the date of citation. You will be advised if you require to call this number again by the Sheriff / Clerk of Court.

Difficulty using the phone

Phone interpreter

A phone interpreter service is available when you contact a court by phone or attend in person. To access this service ask for phone interpreter and the language required.

The phone interpreter service is not available during actual court proceedings.

The court building is open:

  • Monday to Thursday from 08:30 to 17:00
  • Friday from 08:30 to 16:30

Please note that the public and fines counters close at 13:00 on the first Wednesday of each month.

Paying a fine

On arrival

Please report to the main reception. You will be directed from there as to where you need to go in the building. On occasion, when entering the building, you may be asked to pass through airport type screening and your bags or briefcases may be searched.

If you are attending for jury duty please come to the main reception where you will be directed to the appropriate waiting area.

There is disabled access at the front of the building and a lift is available within the building. If you have any specific access requirements please contact the sheriff clerk.

Facilities

There is a cafe on the first floor which provides meals and light refreshments. This is open from 09:00 to 14:00 Monday to Friday. There are a number of local cafes, restaurants and takeaways a short walk from the court building. A vending machine is located on the ground floor providing cold drinks.

If you are sitting on a jury, lunch and refreshments will be provided for you if the court sits into the afternoon.

A loop induction service is available in all courtrooms for people who have hearing difficulties. Please contact the court if you require to use this facility.
