The Sheriffdom of Lothian and Borders
The Jedburgh Sheriff Court and Justice of the Peace Court was established in the same building in 2008. The classical building, which was originally the Roxburgh County Buildings, occupies an important central site at the junction of Castlegate and Market Place and dates from 1812. The architect's name is not recorded. In 1793 Sir Walter Scott pled his first case as Advocate in the earlier Court House on the site.

Castlegate is well served by public transport. Use the journey planner for public transportation information.
Buses arrive at the bus stance in Canongate which is close to the court house.
There is a train service from Edinburgh to Tweedbank. An alternative mode of transport would be required for onward commute to Jedburgh.
There is no public car parking available at this court. There is a public car park in Canongate just off the A68 trunk road with ample spaces which is free of charge and includes dedicated disabled bays. A limited number of free car parking spaces are also available in Abbey Place a few metres from the court building.
There are no taxi ranks in Jedburgh.
Please report to the court officer or the main reception desk on the ground floor. You will be directed from there as to where you need to go in the building. The procurator fiscal's office is located on the top floor.
If you are attending for jury duty please come to the main reception where you will be directed to the court room.
If you have any specific access requirements please contact the sheriff clerk's office. Language line facilities are available for anyone who requires the support of an interpreter. For language line arrangements call 01835 863231.
There is a refreshment facility on the ground floor which is open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays. Restaurants and cafes can be found on the High Street.
If you are sitting on a jury, lunch and refreshments will be provided for you if the court sits into the afternoon.
A loop induction service is available in all courtrooms for people who have hearing difficulties. Please contact the sheriff clerk's office if you require to use this facility.
