Radon levels

Following expert advice, SCTS commissioned an assessment of the levels of Radon in the Inverness Justice Centre using specialist monitors. Radon is a naturally occurring gas found in rocks and soils across all parts of the UK. Inverness has been identified as an area where Radon can naturally occur at higher levels.

While the vast majority of areas monitored were found to be well within normal levels, two rooms on the ground floor of the Inverness Justice Centre (IJC) Indicated elevated levels.  The reading from a third room was found to be borderline. We are undertaking more monitoring.

The public areas, including the courts are unaffected.

We have now undertaken measures to ensure the safety of all those who may require to access these rooms limiting the time spent in the rooms and increasing ventilation throughout the building. We are actively considering what measures we can take to reduce the elevated levels in the two rooms as quickly as possible.

More information on radon gas can be found on UK radon's website
