A court in the Sheriffdom of South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway
During an assessment at Airdrie Sheriff Court in 2023, RAAC was found to be present in the building. Airdrie Justice of the Peace Court was inspected and no RAAC has been identified there.
The safety of our staff and all who use our buildings is our primary concern, therefore some areas within Airdrie Sheriff Court affected by RAAC were taken out of operation to ensure there is no risk to those who use the building.
Remedial works have been in progress and, from Monday 18 March 2024, Court 5 will be operational and we anticipate Court 1 will be back in operation by the end of Summer 2024.
The public can access the building from the 18 March however there remains a limited number of areas where some restrictions apply. There may still be occasions, where access to the Court room is restricted to those who have business calling, witnesses, including supporter and members of the press.
The public counter remains closed and people will be unable to pay fines in person at the court. Alternative ways to pay a fine can be found on the fines webpage.
There will be a permanent change to car parking arrangements in Airdrie Sheriff & JP Court. This car park can only be used by staff and judiciary due to limited spacing. Disabled car parking will be available upon request.
We are deploying a number of options for the continuation of court business, including moving business online and making full use of the court estate. The detail of the arrangements in place are noted below:

Airdrie Sheriff Court building houses five Courtrooms, all of which are situated on the ground floor.
The Justice of the Peace Court is located in the Airdrie Sheriff Court and Justice of the Peace Court Annexe, which is directly opposite Airdrie Sheriff Court.
The Court sits on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of each week, dealing with a range of summary criminal matters. Staff only attend the Justice of the Peace Court when the Court is sitting.

There is no access to the public counter at present. Fines can be paid on the Pay A Fine section of the website. Alternatively, find details of other courts located nearby in the Sheriffdom of South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway.
The Court in Graham Street is well served by public transport. Please use the journey planner for public transportation information.
Buses from outlying areas and local buses stop close to the Court in Graham Street. For up to date timetables use the journey planner or see firstgroup.
The train station is approximately ten minutes walk from the courthouse. Train services run from Glasgow Queen Street to Airdrie and from Edinburgh to Airdrie on a regular basis. Visit ScotRail or National Rail Enquiries for train times.
There is no public car parking available at this court, the nearest public car park is off Hallcraig Street.
The main taxi rank is located near the Court is in Stirling Street.
A plasma screen is located in the main foyer of the Court, which provides information of the cases due to call in court for the day. If you require any further assistance, or information, please ask at the reception desk, which is also situated in the main foyer of the building.
All jurors and witnesses should report, on arrival at the Court, to the reception desk, where you will be directed to the appropriate area.
The Lanarkshire cancer care trust operates a snack bar service, on a daily basis, from 09:00 until 12 noon. There are also several restaurants and cafes close to the Court.
If you are sitting on a jury, refreshments and lunch will be provided, as necessary.
In-court advice service that is managed by Airdrie Citizens Advice Bureau is based in the courthouse. If you are involved in a civil case in the sheriff court, the In-court advice service might be able to help you. The service can provide advice on small claims and summary cause cases and help with civil matters including:

A loop induction service is available within courtrooms for people who have hearing difficulties. Please let a court official know, on your arrival at court, if you require use of this facility.
Wheelchair access is provided via a ramp adjacent to the stairs leading to the main entrance to the Court. If you require assistance, please contact the Court in advance of your visit. lift available, next to the reception desk, which provides access to the sheriff clerk's public office that is located on the first floor of the Court.
