About the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) in Scotland

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) in Scotland has a general function to maintain a public register of powers of attorney registered, guardianship and intervention orders granted and authorisations granted under the access to funds scheme.

The OPG register powers of attorney that are to begin or continue in the event of incapacity and supervise those individuals who have been appointed to manage the financial and property affairs of adults who lack the capacity to do so for themselves.

In circumstances where the property or finances belonging to an incapable adult appear to be at risk, the OPG can investigate and provide support.

The office is based in Falkirk and covers all of Scotland.

The Office of the Public Guardian website provides a single access point for information relating to the financial provisions contained in the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.

Difficulty using the phone

Phone interpreter

A phone interpreter service is available when you contact a court by phone or attend in person. To access this service ask for phone interpreter and the language required.

The phone interpreter service is not available during actual court proceedings.

Text relay service

If you are deaf, have hearing loss or are speech impaired you can contact us for free with Relay UK.

British Sign Language (BSL)

A bus stop is located approximately five minutes’ walk from the Office of the Public Guardian. First Bus operates a regular service to and from Falkirk bus station at ten-minute intervals. The majority of services 38, 83 and 84 stop at the business park.

There are two main train stations in Falkirk; Falkirk High Station and Falkirk Grahams ton. Both stations provide regular services to and from Edinburgh and Glasgow. The office is located approximately five minutes’ drive from either station.

Taxis are available from taxi ranks in Falkirk Town Centre.

On arrival

When you arrive, please make your way to the first floor and press the buzzer at the reception door. There are lifts and disabled access. Language line and text relay facilities will be available within the office.
