Stranraer Sheriff Court and Justice of the Peace Court
Stranraer Sheriff Court opened to the public on 15 January 1874 and was extensively refurbished in 1981. The Court currently has one Resident Sheriff, two Court Rooms and covers the District of Wigtownshire.

By Ferry
The Stena Terminal is located 6 miles from the sheriff court at Cairnryan. Taxis are in attendance for ferry arrivals and must be ordered. The P&O Ferry Terminal is located at Cairnryan which is 6 miles from the sheriff court.
By bus
Buses from outlying areas stop at Port Rodie, within 10 minutes walking distance from the sheriff court. Local buses stop at Port Rodie. For timetables visit the website.
By rail
The train station is three quarters of a mile from the sheriff court. Taxi's are in attendance for train arrivals. Visit ScotRail or National Rail Enquiries for train times.
By car
There is no parking at the court except for disabled users. Please telephone before attending to arrange disabled parking. Most of the local parking requires parking discs, these are free and can be obtained from shops.
The nearest car park is at Hanover Square, which has a limited number of all day spaces. All-day car parks are situated along the waterfront at Port Rodie or Agnew Crescent, within 10 minutes walking distance of the court.

Jurors from outlying areas - where no other method of travel is available due to the infrequency of the service, you must phone the sheriff clerk for permission to use a taxi.
By air
The nearest Airport is Glasgow/Prestwick International which is 60 miles from the sheriff court.
On Arrival
For general enquiries regarding civil, commissary or criminal matters, or to pay a fine, please go to the public counter on the ground floor. To attend the civil or criminal court, please switch off all mobile phones and report to the court officer on the first floor.
Jurors are reminded to please switch off all mobile phones and report to the court officer on the first floor landing with your jury citation at hand.
Facilities for those with hearing difficulties: there is a portable loop system available for the court building, please request for use of equipment at the public counter.

Facilities
There are no amenities within the court house, but there are a number of locations within a short walk where hot and cold drinks and snacks can be purchased. If you are sitting on a jury, lunch and refreshments will be provided for you if the court sits into the afternoon.
A portable loop induction service is available. Please request equipment from the public counter.
