Appointment to the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service board

The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) has appointed Summary Sheriff Frank Gill to its board.

Summary Sheriff Gill succeeds Sheriff Martin Brown in the position as of 1 March 2025.

He was appointed as a Summary Sheriff in Tayside, Central and Fife in October 2021. He moved to a resident post at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in March 2024. He trained at Drummond Miller and was then a solicitor in private practice for more than 20 years including as a partner in Anderson Strathern and Kennedys Scotland. He has an LLB and an LLM in Human Rights Law both from the University of Strathclyde. Prior to his appointment as a Summary Sheriff, he was the Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Scotland. Summary Sheriff Gill is a former Board Member of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission.

The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service is an independent body, governed by a Corporate Board and chaired by the Lord President, the most senior judge in Scotland.

The SCTS Board develops the strategic direction for the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service and delivers an operationally effective SCTS, which is responsible for providing the staff, buildings and technology to support Scotland’s judiciary, the courts, devolved tribunals and the Office of the Public Guardian.
