Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee will launch their city centre Low Emission Zones (LEZ) shortly, joining Glasgow whose zone has already been operating for a year.
Dundee will commence enforcement on 30 May followed by Aberdeen and Edinburgh on 1 June, Glasgow will commence enforcement for residents within the Low Emission Zone from 1 June.
The Transport Appeals jurisdiction of the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland General Regulatory Chamber (GRC) will hear appeals on penalty notices relating to the new Low Emission Zones regulations. This replaced the former Parking and Bus Lane Appeals jurisdiction on 1 June 2023. More information on how to appeal is available on the GRC website.
Scotland’s Low Emission Zones will only allow access to vehicles which meet minimum emission standards or meet the exemption criteria.
The vehicle checker will allow, by providing vehicle registration number, to check if a vehicle can or cannot drive within a LEZ based on whether it is considered compliant or non-compliant with the emission standards. All four Scottish LEZs follow the same emission standards set by the Scottish government.
The Transport Appeals jurisdiction considers appeals made against parking penalty charge notices and for bus lane enforcement charge notices issued by councils participating in decriminalised parking and bus lane enforcement.
In addition, the new Transport Appeals jurisdiction will consider appeals relating to the Workplace Parking Licensing Schemes and the prohibition of Dropped Footway Parking, Pavement Parking and Double Parking.
