Update on the use of face coverings in SCTS buildings from 23 May

May 19, 2022

The safety of all those who use our buildings has been paramount throughout the pandemic.  As we move towards what we all hope will be a more stable summer period, we have continued to review the Covid-19 data and advice. The latest analysis is encouraging and indicates that case levels in Scotland continue to decline.

On 25 April, we were able to remove restrictions on public access to our buildings but retained the mandatory use of face coverings for SCTS staff, the judiciary and those involved in courtroom proceedings. Given the current position, we are now able to move to a position where the wearing of face coverings will continue to be strongly recommended, in line with Scottish Government guidance, but will no longer be mandatory.  This change will take effect across all SCTS premises from Monday 23 May.

While still strongly recommended, people can now make individual choices about wearing face coverings.  We would encourage everyone to respect the choices that others make and keep working together to maintain safety, as we have done throughout the pandemic.

Recent developments have been encouraging but Government analysis reminds us that the virus is still with us.  We will continue to maintain the following safety measures for everyone using our buildings:

  • whilst no longer mandatory, we continue to strongly recommend the use of face covering in our buildings in the interests of your own safety and of others;
  • we encourage everyone to take a common sense approach to maintaining and respecting other people’s personal space when in our buildings;
  • good hand hygiene remains crucial, in addition to good general hygiene and ventilation.  We will maintain our enhanced cleaning arrangements across the estate and will also maintain ventilation levels in line with guidance.

Thank you

As has been the case throughout the pandemic, we rely on, and continue to appreciate everyone’s ongoing cooperation to enable us to support justice safely.

Please continue to follow the current Scottish Government Guidance to help protect yourself and others.
