Fine and penalty collection rates continue to improve

Figures published today by the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) show improvement in the three year collection rates across all fine and penalty types in Quarter 4 2023/24 for both value and number of fines.

Our headline collection rates for sheriff court fines show:

  • 91% of the value has been paid or is on track to be paid
  • 68% of accounts have been fully paid with a further 19% on track to be paid

The figures also show that more than £1.6 million has been paid into the Victim Surcharge Fund which is administered by the Scottish Government. The fund supports the victims of crime and receives a percentage of each court fine paid. More than £167,000 was collected in the last quarter for the fund.
