The Office of Summary Sheriff vacancies

Feb 12, 2018

The Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals who wish to be considered for appointment to the Office of Summary Sheriff, to take up post on 1st October 2018.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to justice in Scotland. There are currently six vacancies across the following Sheriffdoms:

Glasgow and Strathkelvin

  • 3 x full-time resident posts based at Glasgow Sheriff Court

North Strathclyde

  • 1 x full-time floating post based at Paisley Sheriff Court

South Strathclyde Dumfries and Galloway

  • 1 x full-time floating post. Base court to be agreed following appointment.

Tayside Central and Fife

  • 1 x full-time floating post. Base court to be agreed following appointment.

During the current appointment round further summary sheriff vacancies may arise across other sheriffdoms including Grampian, Highlands and Islands. Applicants will be advised of any further vacancies and asked if they would wish to be considered for these.

Following the conclusion of this appointment round, the Board will hold open a list of appointable candidates for a period of six months. Should further summary sheriff vacancies arise during that period, those vacancies may be offered to candidates on this list. Please note that being on the list does not guarantee a recommendation.

The Guidance Note for Applicants provides detailed information on the posts available.

The Board encourages diversity and particularly welcomes applications from groups currently under represented in the judiciary. The principles of fair and open competition will apply and recommendation for appointment will be made solely on merit.
